Open Question: Is being Anti Bush going to make Obama a great President?

Read this and LET ME know WHAT YOU THINK! LINK : http://www.usnews.com/blogs/erbe/2009/07/02/the-public-is-catching-on-that-obamas-promises-of-change-are-vacuous.html By Bonnie Erbe, Thomas Jefferson Street blog. I share herewith some interesting observations offered by my colleague Ken Walsh. Even though recent public opinion polls show the president's popularity at 60 percent or above, America's confidence in his ability to meet the challenges of his time is thinning. President Obama is heading into stormy waters. His healthcare plans have stalled on Capitol Hill; he is being faulted for a shaky response to the post-election violence in Iran; his job-approval ratings are dropping; and confidence in his handling of the economy is ebbing. The warning signs are enough to worry Democratic strategists that Obama may be sinking into a trough that will sap his influence just when he needs it most. To this I say, it's about time that the public and the media catch up with what this president is all about: re-election. As I've blogged mightily since he first "caught on" as a presidential candidate, this is a smart, capable man who is not ready for prime time. He's made mistake after mistake, starting with spending way too much on his stimulus package, trying to please everybody on all sides of every issue and in the process pleasing no one, and getting too cozy with U.S. foes such as Iran's Ahmadinejad. The best thing the Obama administration has going for it is the GOP is in even worse shape. History will prove me correct that being anti-Bush is not enough to make a great president. His promises of change have proven vacuous and his ability to lead has disappointed on most fronts. more

Open Question: Obamas president, Sanford is a cheater, Palin resigns?

Open Question: "Only now do they begin to understand", is that a good slogan for Conservative Democrats?

PRINCETON, NJ -- A Gallup Poll finds a statistically significant increase since last year in the percentage of Americans who describe the Democratic Party's views as being "too liberal," from 39% to 46%. This is the largest percentage saying so since November 1994, after the party's losses in that year's midterm elections. more

Resolved Question: By resigning, has Sarah Palin effectively disenfranchised a large number of Alaskans who voted for her as Gov?

They did not vote for Parnell...and from my study of Palin she won unexpectedly on a huge groundswell of popular support. The people of Alaska wanted Palin as Governor, not her Deputy. ....and now they are saddled with a man whose policies and popularity have not been tested at the Polls. Is this fair to them? Do they have a right to feel angered and disappointed in her? Did she she simply abandon them for the sake of her loftier ambitions of moving into Federal Politics? Surely she is young enough that she could have seen out her term as Governor and tried for Federal election after she had kept her initial commitment to the people of Alaska? Wouldn't this have been better evidence of her suitability for High Office...the willingness to honour her commitments? Doesn't her sudden resignation speak volumes about her reliability? more

Resolved Question: Do those of you on the left still think that what happened in Honduras was a "coup"?

After reading the facts below, see if you agree with Obama, Ortega, Chavez and Castro that the legitimate President of Honduras was ousted by a "military coup". It took the Obama administration eight days to figure out whether Iranians being gunned down for protesting a fraudulent election and demanding basic civil liberties deserved to be acknowledged by the president of the United States. It took the O-Team less than eight hours to side with Cuba's Fidel Castro, Venezuela's Hugo Chavez and Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega over the ouster of Manuel Zelaya in Honduras. As we now have come to expect, Mr. Obama got it wrong again, but this time, nobody noticed. The U.S. news media, preoccupied with the sudden demise of Michael Jackson, ignored the event in Central America. For those who care about things more important than the passing of a "pop music legend," here's the rest of the story: Manuel Zelaya, a wealthy rancher and agribusiness executive and a self-described "poor farmer," won a four-year term as Honduran president in November 2005, with 49.8 percent of the vote. Article 374 of the Honduran Constitution bars the nation's chief executive from serving consecutive terms. Apparently, one term wasn't enough for Zelaya, a protege of Venezuela's strongman, Hugo Chavez, and Nicaragua's phobic anti-American leader, Daniel Ortega. Late last year, as the Honduran economy tanked and unemployment grew to nearly 28 percent, Zelaya forced Elvin Santos, the country's elected vice president, to resign and began holding conversations with Chavez and Ortega on how to hold on to power. In lengthy Chavez-like populist speeches, he denounced the U.S. and wealthy landowners and linked himself with leftists in the Honduran labor movement. On March 23, he issued an executive decree directing a national referendum on a Venezuela-style constituent assembly to rewrite the country's constitution in time for presidential and legislative elections in November. The Obama-Clinton State Department was mute about all of this. Unfortunately for Zelaya's aspirations, the Honduran Constitution requires that amendments be passed by a two-thirds vote of the country's unicameral Congress during two consecutive sessions. By late May, the Honduran Congress, the Honduran Supreme Court, the commissioner for human rights, and the Honduran electoral tribunal all had overwhelmingly declared the referendum unconstitutional. Zelaya ignored the people's representatives, had ballots printed in Venezuela, and announced that the vote would take place June 28. Again, the O-Team was silent. In keeping with the rule of law, Honduran Attorney General Luis Alberto Rubi took the case to court. The Honduran Supreme Court ruled the referendum to be illegal and ordered the ballots to be confiscated. Late on June 23, Zelaya countermanded the court order and directed the army to distribute the ballots. Gen. Romeo Vasquez, the chief of staff of the Honduran military, sought legal opinions and decided not to distribute them. The following day, Zelaya accepted the resignation of the minister of defense, Edmundo Orellana, and fired Vasquez. The Honduran Supreme Court unanimously ruled the Vasquez firing illegal and reinstated him June 25. That prompted Zelaya and a group of supporters to seize the ballots and issue another executive decree, which directed government officials to set up 15,000 polling stations at schools and community buildings across the country. In response to a request from Attorney General Rubi, the Honduran Congress -- controlled by Zelaya's own Liberal Party -- opened an investigation into the president's mental stability and fitness to govern. Zelaya replied with a two-hour broadcast harangue, in which he claimed: "Congress cannot investigate me, much less remove me or stage a technical coup against me, because I am honest. I'm a free president, and nobody scares me." On Sunday, just hours before the referendum was to begin, the Honduran army, acting on a warrant issued by the Honduran Supreme Court, arrested Zelaya and sent him, in his pajamas, into exile in Costa Rica. The Honduran Congress affirmed Zelaya's departure and, in accord with the constitution, named Roberto Micheletti, who had been president of the Congress, as interim president of the country. It has been downhill from there. Chavez, Ortega, Castro and Bolivia's Evo Morales immediately condemned the "coup" and demanded that Zelaya be restored to power. Chavez went so far as to threaten military action. When asked about these events Sunday, the O-Team punted the issue to the Organization of American States, calling for "all political and social actors in Honduras to respect democratic norms, the rule of law and the tenets of the Inter-American Democratic Charter." Now there's a powerful statement of support for a constitutional process and the institutions of democracy. Meanwhile, the Clinton State Department is said to be looking at cutting off more

Open Question: Why do people hate Rush Limbaugh so much, why do democrats demonize him?

I haven't listened to Rush much, only recently and while it sounds out there what he's saying sometimes, if you look around, he's on the mark. He doesn't make stuff up. Here's an excerpt from when Hannity was interviewing Rush. "LIMBAUGH: You know, I'm not yet fatalistic about the country. There's still time for this to be stopped. There are the elections of 2010 and there are the elections, of course, of 2012. If you look at polling data, his approval numbers are pretty steady at 63, 64. That is much, I think, guaranteed by the state-run media, the way they report. But if you look at polls on issues, issue after issue, you'll find that on most of them the majority of the American people, like, don't want Gitmo closed. They don't want bailouts at General Motors. Most of the American people, a clear majority disagree, policy-wise, with everything he's doing. Yet, has this wildly high approval rating. He's very charismatic, demagogic, and it's not what he says that has people captivated. It's how he says it." Rush does not seem like an ignorant man, as far as I can tell, he knows what he's saying. I'm beginning to think people just don't like him because he tells the truth without holding back. I will admit I don't know enough a lot of times to know if he's lieing because he tells news before I even read about it, but when I do find out about something he was talking about, I don't remember anything untrue that he said about it.I question his assessment sometimes too, but, I'm beginning to think maybe his assessments are more accurate than mine because I'm seeing things that these democrats are doing, and I'm afraid. more

Resolved Question: compare situations.. Honduras crisis?

Year 2012: Obama's administration hasn't been what the American people expected. Nevertheless, Obama argues four years were not enough to revert the economic, social and military crisis he inherited. The American people believe his speech and reelect him. Year 2016: History repeats itself and the American people realize Obama's administration is worse than the Bush nightmare and are counting the days to elect a new president. He's been applying the Marxist-Leninist Theory blaming capitalism for the problems he has caused. The economic situation has worsened and there are more Americans facing economic hardship than ever before. In a desperate move he offers to solve the problems of the unfortunate by redistributing wealth. He claims a need for a new Constitution that truly empowers him to push the social reforms against the elite, which despite his efforts, have been successful in sustaining a model of exploitation of the majority for the benefit of a minority. June, 2016: A fallacious referendum is being forced against the will of the people and a ruling of the Supreme Court that declares it unconstitutional. Every single democratic institution in the United States of America also rules against it: Senate, House of Representatives, Attorney General, Electoral College, Republican Party and even the Democratic Party. But Obama says he is simply executing a poll of opinion to establish if the American people want to include a ballot in the November 4, 2016 elections to modify the Presidential Term Limits established by Amendment 22 of the US Constitution. He says the people have the right to decide this and strategically stays in a grey area demanding from his opponents the benefit of the doubt. June 24-26, 2016: The United States Armed Forces warn the President and make it clear they will not support his endeavors. Obama arbitrarily removes the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in a press conference and accepts the resignation of the Secretary of Defense. The Supreme Court rules this action unconstitutional and reinstates the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.. The Attorney General executes a court order and confiscates the ballots that arrive from Venezuela on a Venezuelan flag plane. Obama hires transportation, gathers around 600 supporters, organizes a riot in front of an Air Force base and breaks in to take possession of the ballots. The House of Representatives initiates the impeachment of the President which triggers tremendous pressure from the OAS condemning such process. June 27, 2016: One day before the poll the unthinkable is discovered: the executive branch has passed a Law that now turns the "poll" into a referendum to convene a constituent assembly. The President's intentions are now clear. He will perform an illegal referendum without any supervision and under his total control, which clearly allows him to distort its outcome to show an apparent support from the people. The truth is the vast majority want him out. The above scenario is of course a hypothetical comparison to illustrate the dead end Honduras faced a few hours before this referendum took place on Sunday June 28, 2009. I've simply narrated the quick ending of a long soap opera that Hondurans have been living for the past three and a half years. This is a narration that partially illustates how much was accomplished in so little time by the system of Checks and Balances of a democratically strong country, in the effort to make the constitutional order prevail. It shows how unfair it is for the world to say "you did not do enough".. How unfair it is to ask for more. It also allows me to ask the following question: Do you honestly think the Supreme Court of Justice, the Senate, the House of Representatives, the Attorney General, the Electoral College, the Political Parties, the Armed Forces and the American People would, under this hypothetical scenario, cross their arms and watch how one man takes control of their country, simply because there was no time to follow the politically correct procedures? I can't deny Manuel Zelaya suffered a coup d'état. It was sudden, violent and illegal. But it was a democratic coup to defend the Constitution that has served our country well. Honduras had to choose between a democratic coup, a tyrannicide and a dictator consolidating himself in power. In my opinion we chose well between these options. It's called "L'autodétermination des peuples", and is much better than the many military interventions the UN has been forced to execute to free states in the world that were incapable of freeing themselves. Today the heads of state of the world are simply reacting based on a human reflex that says "this could happen to us, we need to make sure it never happens again". Reflexes are not always logical and the international community clearly jumped into early conclusions. The crisis in Honduras is important because the people governed by these heads of state are the ones that need to r more

Resolved Question: The question is,??????

did you find this interesting? Newsmax Rasmussen Poll: Obama's Popularity Plunging Tuesday, June 30, 2009 7:27 PM By: Jim Meyers The latest Rasmussen daily tracking poll shows that President Barack Obama for the first time has a negative approval index — more Americans disapprove of his job performance than approve. In an exclusive Newsmax interview, pollster Scott Rasmussen also disclosed that, if the economy does not improve over the next year, Obama's numbers will deteriorate even further — and Democrats will suffer in 2010. Rasmussen is founder and CEO of Rasmussen Reports and co-founder of the sports network ESPN. He has been an independent public opinion pollster for over a decade, and most major news organizations cite his reports. Newsmax.TV's Ashley Martella asked Rasmussen for an overview of the latest tracking poll. "The raw numbers are pretty straightforward — 31 percent of Americans strongly approve of the way Barack Obama is handling his job, 33 percent strongly disapprove," Rasmussen said. "Before the last week we never had a circumstance where the number who disapprove outweigh the number who approve. So we're in new territory. Right now the approval index, at minus two, is as low as it's been. "What we've seen in the last month is a growing number of people who strongly disapprove, and we're seeing it at a time when the president's honeymoon is coming to an end and people are beginning to look at the policies that he's promoting." The closeness of the approve/disapprove numbers are "yet another indicator of how evenly divided our nation is," he added. On specific issues, Rasmussen disclosed: "When we talk about healthcare reform and the proposal the president is talking about, the country is fairly evenly divided. But those who have strong opinions tend to oppose the plan more than support it. "On the cap-and-trade legislation [to reduce carbon emissions], 42 percent believe it's going to hurt the economy. Only 19 percent believe it's going to help. "The takeover of General Motors is strongly opposed. "Right now those things are weighing the president down. What's going to tell over the next year is how the economy performs. If a year from today, GM is doing great and throwing off profits and getting the taxpayers their money back, people will say we were wrong, the president was right, and it's great for him. But if GM is back asking for more bailouts, the president's numbers will be substantially weaker than they are today . . . "If the economy responds negatively over the next year, it is going to hurt the Democrats in 2010. "What the passage of legislation will actually do is bring ownership of the economy and economic performance more and more into Barack Obama's camp. "Just over a month ago, 62 percent of Americans said that no matter what's happened in the last six months, George Bush is still more to blame for the economic mess than Barack Obama. That number fell to 54 percent, and the more of Obama's policies that are put in place, the more the blame or perhaps the credit will shift to the current president." Rasmussen also found: The country is evenly split between those who approve of the way Obama has responded to the disputed elections in Iran and the repression of demonstrations that followed, and those who disapprove and believe he has not been aggressive enough. More Americans strongly oppose Obama's healthcare plan than strongly support it. About 30 percent of Americans favor a single-payer healthcare system, but a majority will oppose it. "Americans like the idea of healthcare reform in theory, in the abstract," Rasmussen said. "Only 35 percent think this system is in good or excellent shape. But people like the coverage they get by themselves. Among the insured, 70 percent say their own coverage is good or excellent. Among all Americans, only 8 percent say their coverage is poor." more

Resolved Question: Why does Obama side with dictators?

Former Honduran President Manuel Zelaya, under the influence of Hugo Chavez, tried have an illegal poll in an attempt to change his countries constitution which would lead to him becoming a dictator, the same way that Hugo Chavez did in Venezuela not too long ago. The majority of the government in Honduras did not want him to become a dictator, so the military removed him from his home and sent him to Costa Rica, good for them. Obama has stated that this was not a legal process. How can he say that it's not legal, or a good thing to remove someone that is trying to become a dictator of your country. What if Obama wanted to end elections and proclaim himself a dictator? You think that Americans would stand by for that? Hell no. http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUKTRE55S5J220090629?sp=true So why does Obama always seem to side with dictators, or not condemn them for their actions (ie. the little Hitler in Iran)? Why? Does he think that the "rule of law" is to allow presidents of countries to proclaim themselves as dictators? Obama seems fine with this kind of action.Nate - Some good examples you pointed out there. There have been presidents that showed some support for dictators at certain times, but Obama is consistent with his support of all of them it seems. The guy is a radical and he would become president for life (aka dictator) if given the choice. He is that arrogant I believe. more

Voting Question: Question about New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine?

(please no rants, just rational answers) Polls show majority of New Jersey residents support gay marriage. However, it is looking questionable if their pro-gay-marriage governor will be re-elected in November 2009. In 2008, Corzine, a gay marriage supporter, refused to bring the issue to the legislature because he didn't want to make it a "presidential-election-year issue." Okay, fine...................So why didn't he bring it to the legislature in 2009? See here's the situation: He's up for re-election in November 2009. and he's trailing his Republican opponent, Chris Christie, in the polls. Christie says he'll veto gay marriage. So seeing as how Corzine's job is in jeopardy for 2010..............why doesn't he legalize it now, in 2009, while he has the chance?R Maddow: I agree; let the people decide. Seeing as how the majority of New Jersey residents support gay marriage, gay marriage would pass in New Jersey. IF it were put on the ballot. more

Resolved Question: Barry Obama screws the pooch in job approval. Permanent downtrend?

One Term Barry is at his lowest approval rating ever and the trend has been downwards. "The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday shows that 31% of the nation's voters now Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Thirty-three percent (33%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -2. That matches the lowest level yet recorded" http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/daily_presidential_tracking_poll Note this is a poll of the NATIONS' VOTERS who voted in the last election and plan to vote again in the next one. That is the definition of "likely voters". It is meaningless to look at polls that do not limit themselves to people who actually voted in the last election and plan to vote again next time. Rasmussen proved to be the most accurate pollster in both the 2004 and 2008 presidential elections. Their predictions were closer than any other pollsters to the final election percentages for the two candidates. more

Voting Question: voting assisatnce for teh disabled?

this says a person with a diability can be assisted by a person chosedn by theri employer? that doesn't make sense why isn't it by the voter herself In addition, according to state and federal law, a person with a disability has the right to be assisted at the polls and accompanied into the voting booth, if necessary. Resolved Question: Does Honduras have a stronger democracy than the US?

Would the US military ever defend our constitution this way? Honduran President Zelaya was arrested shortly before polls were to open in a referendum on whether to change the constitution. The Supreme Court ruled the referendum illegal and everyone from Congress to members of his own party opposed it. Critics said Zelaya wanted to remove limits to his re-election. more

Voting Question: Calls for a UK General Election?

Whilst I agree that we the people should have the right in determining who governs us, rather than hierarchy of the New Labour Party, do the calls from the Tories for an election stem from a principled position or an opportunistic one. i.e. If the Tories were behind New Labour in the polls, would they still be pushing so hard because its the right thing to do. Or is it that they have such a huge lead in the polls that an election now would probably result in a huge Tory victory. Are the motives sound and principled or are they of self-interest??Edit: Fair point, I just wanted people to think about the real reason why they are pushing so hard for the election. Its not because they are any better than New Labour, its because they are ahead in the polls. Such motives should be considered carefully.Raven: I understand that, but I think people should be aware of the motives instead of the false sense of nobility the Tories seem to be portraying, as crusaders for the people against the evil dictator Prime Minister. I'm not fan of Brown or New Labour, I think they are rotten to the core. But I think the same about the Tories. more

Voting Question: Where's our survey? I feel discriminated against...?

"During the 2008 election, 38 percent of blacks surveyed thought racial discrimination was a serious problem. In the new survey, 55 percent of blacks surveyed believed it was a serious problem, which is about the same level as it was in 2000." (http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/06/25/obama.poll/index.html) GET OVER YOURSELVES. SHUT THE F* UP!!!!The duration of the campaign and election all anyone could say was 'this should not be about race' ..I'm sorry, but it seems that all it is about is race. So don't speak of discrimination until you can drop the topic yourself.I am white. I am part native american. so i have minority blood. either way, im just sick and tired of hearing and reading about it. Drop the race card. If people in general would let it go it wouldn't be a big deal. My best friend is black and do not need to justify myself. There are plenty of minorities out there that feel the same way I do. more

Resolved Question: Did Iran fall from another typical US psy ops?

President Obama called on the Iranian government to allow protesters to control the streets in Tehran. Would Obama or any US president allow protesters to control the streets in Washington, D.C.? There was more objective evidence that George W. Bush stole his two elections than there is at this time of election theft in Iran. But there was no orchestrated media campaign to discredit the US government. On May 16, 2007, the London Telegraph reported that Bush regime official John Bolton told the Telegraph that a US military attack on Iran would "be a 'last option' after economic sanctions and attempts to foment a popular revolution had failed." We are now witnessing in Tehran US "attempts to foment a popular revolution" in the guise of another CIA orchestrated "color revolution." It is possible that splits among the mullahs themselves brought about by their rival ambitions will aid and abet what the Telegraph (May 27, 2007) reported were "CIA plans for a propaganda and disinformation campaign intended to destabilize, and eventually topple, the theocratic rule of the mullahs." It is certainly a fact that the secularized youth of Tehran have played into the CIA's hands. The Mousavi protests have set up Iran either for a US puppet government or for a military strike. The mullahs are in a lose-lose situation. Even if the mullahs hold together and suppress the protests, the legitimacy of the Iranian government in the eyes of the outside world has been damaged. Obama's diplomatic approach is over before it started. The neocons and Israel have won. The US intervention and the orchestrated disinformation pumped out by the western media are so transparent that it is impossible to believe than any informed person or government is taken in. One cannot avoid the conclusion that the West wants the 1978 Iranian Revolution overthrown and intends to use deception or violence to achieve that goal. It has become increasingly difficult to believe that facts and truth motivate the western news media. For the record, I would like to point out a few of the most obvious oversights, to use an euphemism, in the Iran reporting. According to a wide variety of news sources (for example, London Telegraph, Yahoo News, The Globe and Mail, Asbarez.com, Politico), "Before the polling closed Mr. Mousavi declared himself 'definitely the winner' based on 'all indications from all over Iran.' He alleged widespread voting irregularities without giving specifics and hinted he was ready to challenge the final results." Other news sources, which might not have been aware that the polls were kept open several hours beyond normal closing time in order to accommodate the turnout, reported that Mousavi made his victory claim the minute polls closed. Mousavi's premature claim of victory before polling was over or votes counted is clearly a preemptive move, the purpose of which is to discredit any other outcome. There is no other reason to make such a claim. In Iran's system, election fraud has no purpose, because a small select group of ruling mullahs select the candidates who are put on the ballot. If they don't like an aspiring candidate, they simply don't put him on the ballot. When the liberal reformer Khatami ran for president, he won with 70% of the vote and served from 1997-2005. If the mullahs didn't defraud Khatami of his win, it seems unlikely they would defraud an establishment figure like Mousavi, who was foreign minister in the most conservative government, and is backed by another establishment figure, Rafsanjani. As Mousavi was seen as Rafsanjani's man, why is it "unbelievable" that Ahmadinejad defeated Mousavi by the same margin that he defeated Rafsanjani in the previous election? Neoconservative Kenneth Timmerman let the cat out of the bag that there was an orchestrated "color revolution" in the works. Before the election, Timmerman wrote: "there's talk of a 'green revolution' in Tehran." Why would protests be organized prior to a vote and announcement of the outcome? Organized protests waiting in the wings are not spontaneous responses to a stolen election. Timmerman's organization, Foundation for Democracy, is funded by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) for the explicit purpose of promoting democracy in Iran. According to Timmerman, NED money was funneled to "pro-Mousavi groups who have ties to non-governmental organizations outside Iran that the National Endowment for Democracy funds." The US media has studiously ignored all of these highly suggestive facts. The media is not reporting or providing objective analysis. It is engaged in a propagandistic onslaught against the Iranian government. We know that the US funds terrorist organizations inside Iran that are responsible for bombings and other violent acts. It is likely that these terrorist organizations are responsible for the burning buses and other acts of violence that have occurred during the demonstrations iIran Falls To US Psy Ops By Paul Craig Roberts 6-22-9 http://www.rense.com/general86/iranf.htm more

Resolved Question: Should a World Election Organization be created to hold ALL Democratic elections in the world?

this would prevent fraud and speculation like what is going on in Iran now. countries would claim to have Democratic elections would have to prove it by using this service. the World Election Organization would place armed guards at all polling stations, including in countries like America, and several wars would automatically be averted. Is this a good idea, or even possible?sorry Charli, but i couldn't care less about the Constitution.. it was written by hypocrites who wrote All Men are Created Equal, and then went home to their slave-cooked meals. the Constitution was written in the 1800's, for the 1800's.. time for an update.i'm not a Democrat.. the two-party system is a joke. i'm Independent, like everybody in America will be in about 100 years.you guys are probably right.... people would just accuse the U.S. of being in charge of the W.E.O. and making all of the decisions.. it was just an idea. :)GREAT idea Jackson.. but we'd have to be able to know that the elections were legitimate. more

Voting Question: Why Are The Conservative Press Whining About A Huffington Post Question Being Asked And Answered?

I don't understand why the righ is hiowling mad and screaming like children, all because Nico of the Huffington Post asked a question. What's the problem, is it because it was such a good question, or is the MSM mad because they didn't think of one that good? Here it is, btw. "Under which conditions would you accept the election of Ahmadinejad, and if you do accept it without any significant changes in the conditions there, isn't that a betrayal of what the demonstrators there are working towards?" Obama's response: Well look, we didn't have international observers on the ground, we can't say definitively what exactly happened at polling places throughout the country. What we know is that a sizeable percentage of the Iranian people themselves, spanning Iranian society, considered this election illegitimate. It's not an isolated instance, a little grumbling here or there. There [are] significant questions about the legitimacy of the election. And so ultimately, the most important thing for the Iranian government to consider is legitimacy in the eyes of its own people, not in the eyes of the United States. And that's why I've been very clear, ultimately this is up to the Iranian people to decide who their leadership is going to be and the structure of their government. What we can do is to say unequivocally that there are sets of international norms and principles about violence, about dealing with peaceful dissent, that spans cultures, spans borders, and what we've been seeing over the Internet and what we've been seeing in news reports, violates those norms and violates those principles. I think it is not too late for the Iranian government to recognize that there is a peaceful path that will lead to stability and legitimacy and prosperity for the Iranian people. We hope they take it.Ms Beck: That is certainly an odd statement you've made there, considering that it was one of the BEST questions asked at the press conference. Let me guess, you didn't bother reading it.Tracy: For the record, Bush usually knew EVERY QUESTION that was going to be asked of. Heck, he didn't even have "town hall" meetings that weren't loaded with neocons and conservatives, who promised no funny business, or else. more

Resolved Question: Do you Liberals still honesty believe that the so-called Stimulus Bill will work?

WASHINGTON - Barely half of Americans are now confident that President Obama's $787 billion stimulus measure will boost the economy, and the rapid rise in optimism about the state of the nation that followed the 2008 election has abated, according to a new Washington Post-ABC News poll. Resolved Question: Who's a poll watcher?

Obama talks tougher on Iran violence WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Tuesday declared the United States and the entire world "appalled and outraged" by Iran's violent efforts to crush dissent and for the first time expressed significant doubt about the legitimacy of the national election at the root of the upheaval. Voting Question: Is The GOP Breaking/Falling Apart Before Our Very Eyes?

I am concerned. Losing elections, falling poll numbers, republican senators having affairs, republican governors going missing for, what is it now, nearly a week? Is there any thing they can do to right their their ship before it sinks all the way to the bottom? Perhaps they might consider taking a more sensible approach to their politics? Try helping America get out of this Bush recession instead of doing everything that they can to throw up stumbling blocks? Perhaps when the president is practicing diplomacy, they might try standing behind him, instead of pandering to the neocons who have never thought of a war they didn't like (and war related industry stocks they love to see rise)? more

Resolved Question: What are the lessons of Iran?

1. If you believe that you can hand count 40 million paper ballots and come up with a winner one hour after the polls close than you are too stupid to live. 2. If you believe that a predominantly rural country would have a turnout for an election in the mid ninety percent, then you are too stupid to live. 3. if you believe that you can have a progressive democracy where religious freaks of any stripe have power and influence in governmental affairs than you are truly much to stupid to live. 4. If you believe that you can have an election landslide after counting the votes with no indication before the election then you are too stupid to live.To all of you who cannot tell the difference between a couple of hundred votes in dispute out of millions and three recounts and two levels of legal challanges and the appearance of what looks like 12 to 15 million phantom votes...this defimnately qualafies you as too stupid to live. more

Resolved Question: Why Do You Still Believe The Iranian Election Was Rigged?

The election was never rigged. Moussavi is just another cry baby. Look at this CNN article. Ballen said his organization, Terror Free Tomorrow, surveyed 1,001 Iranians in mid-May. That poll found Ahmadinejad leading the four-candidate field with 34 percent support, while Moussavi trailed with 14 percent. The remaining two candidates, former parliament speaker Mehdi Karrubi and onetime Revolutionary Guards commander Mohsen Rezaie, drew 2 percent and 1 percent. So Ahmad won fair in square in the mid-May survey. What makes you think he did not win now? more
