Open Question: What are some good areas to live in North or South Carolina?
My family is considering relocating to N or S Carolina. What city(ies)/areas do you think we would do well in? My fiance' and I are 32 We have a 2 year old daughter We would like for her to attend a good preschool and encourage her in the arts. We would like to move to an area supporting Irish culture-particularly step dancing-for our daughter We plan on having another child in about 2 years....I will stay home and he will support our family until our youngest is old enough to attend preschool. I have a bachelor's degree in accounting and 6 years of tax preparation experience. My fiance' has the experience but is not licensed as a journeyman or electrician. He wants to obtain a license in one or both trades asap after relocation. Our interests/hobbies include: gardening-flowers and vegetables, model trains, military history-particularly the Air Force Which areas do you think offer the best quality of living, that supports our cultural background/preferences/education and lifestyle? We are also open to other suggestions in the states that surround, Tennessee, Kentucky, even Georgia. moreOpen Question: Can i still be in a military college's ECP program if I've been convicted of a petty theft charge?
Ok here it goes...to say the least my freshman year in college was a disaster. I didnt get good grades, i was experimenting with drugs, and now I had gotten arrested for stealing at the local grocery store. Before this I had been a model citizen and person with no trouble with the law (no speeding tickets, no nothing) or anything. Since the arrest happened I decided to leave that college and come home as I knew that I wasnt ready or mature enough for college yet. Since then I have been drug free and back to being a model citizen. I have since enrolled at a military junior college and decided to apply for the ECP program because I decided that is what I want to do for a career, be a military officer in the army. I was just wondering if that ONE mistake of stealing $7.00 worth would keep me from joining the ECP program?? moreOpen Question: Do you like N Carolina or S Carolina better?

as an american i would love for it to be the USA's armed forces but we haven't fought many wars and our record is good but not great e.g vietnam, even though we (my opinion btw) have the strongest armed forces in the world today we also have abit of a reputation of being trigger happy and killing our allies which has lost us a lot of respect. france has a very good military history and i personally think that napoleon was the greatest military leader that ever lived and even today france keeps a good armed forces it has often been stereotyped for surrendering all the time, i personally think that the british armed forces are the most respected throughout the world because From the mid-18th century until well into the 20th century, it was the most powerful navy in the world and the british have also fought more wars than any other country and they formed the largest empire in the world which took 2 world wars to defeat it, britain also has the most highly trained armed forces in the world which has gained a lot of respect from other countries, their special forces are considered the best special forces in the world and most (maybe all) of the worlds special forces are modeled, been made by or use tactics invented by the british special forces. notable british military achievements: Rorke's drift- 139 british soldiers defeated 5000 zulu warriors the spanish armada- hugely outnumberd the british still managed to defeat the spanish armarda battle of trafalger- Twenty-seven British ships of the line led by Admiral Lord Nelson aboard HMS Victory defeated thirty-three French and Spanish ships battle of agincourt- 5900 british defeated between 20000 and 30000 french thats just my opinion what do you think? please no arguments moreOpen Question: What are all the major rich economies in America?
I think all the major economies that make America a rich wealthy nation include: oil (gasoline), food (McDonalds, Kellog's), tobacco (Marlboro), alcohol (Coors, Miller), sports (NBA, MLB, NHL, NFL), entertainment (movies, music, stand-up comedy, modeling, TV, cartoons), and business (the chief executive officers who control all of those companies in the sports, food, and entertainment industries). All of them are interconnected by money and investments so if any of those dominoes gets pulled out of whack a domino effect will likely happen that makes the economy collapse way more than it already has right now: empty arenas, riots in the streets due to no gas, no car travel, people being fired and evicted left and right, and actors and musicians being dropped from their agencies and producers like flies. I have a hunch this stuff would all happen very swiftly over a short period of time if we are talking about the nation collapsing. Oh and I forgot to mention the munitions economy of weapons for police and soliders like (guns, bombs, tanks) as the nation upholds the right to bear arms. Given the military is still intact and the government buys billions of dollars in weapons each year for national defense (satellites, tanks, bombs, bullets, guns) I think this industry would fall first and then all the others would follow suit resulting in massive poverty unlike this nation has ever seen in its history since the days of large families, child labor, and 19th century slums in America's cities. moreResolved Question: Sociology question doesn't make sense could you tell me if I'm on the right path? Discuss both the Power Elite and Pluralist models of power structure: Who developed these models? How are they similar and/or different? Fully describe each model, and give real-life examples of each. Finally, which model do you believe is more accurate and why? here's what I have as of right now: The Power Elite is defined as a small ruling elite of military, industrial, and government leaders that tend to replicate themselves by circulating between the 3 spheres of power". Pluralist is defined as, "any conflicting groups within the community have access to government, and no single group is dominant". I am very interested in the development of a young socialist movement based on equality instead the tenets of strict Marxist/Leninist philosophy. The strict capitalism model espoused by Ranil will very happily keep you at bay and will not provide for social growth to reach the lower tiers of society that are the same people that we aim to pull up. A hybrid, including a different model of unionization that brings more benefits directly to members than losing capitalization in the trickle down flow is a must. The quandary created by unregulated free enterprise per Ranil that provides no protections to the masses and the limitation of opportunity created by an over rigid socialist model can be expressed within the expansion of language as the tool via programmes such as English and IT, leaseholds for small growers, extension of transportation and interlinks, creation of durable and reliable credit without the shenanigans of unregulated finance vehicles such as Ceylinco (another proposition of Ranil's) and limiting double-speak. There have been other programs floated as of late such as an international private nursing programme but without proper and adequate regulation there is no guarantee that it will meet minimum standards either at home or abroad - this is very much in line with the Sakvithi schemes etc. that took your direct or indirect funding and funneled it right out of the country and left many abandoned and peniless. The latest scheme that I have heard of from Ranil is an unregulated insurance scheme that he was passing about on his birthday. I had asked for Rukman and Wimal to come and speak to you months back but instead Wimal was shot at today, your meeting had very little public notice and Rukman was replaced by Ranil. May I suggest you make an appointment and speak to President Rajapaksa prior to elections? Then ask yourself this question - why would anybody spend so much time and energy building up a military apparatus if they never planned to use it? Why would somebody enter into a CFA without proper authorization after such a military build up?And why would someone be passing out unregulated insurance policies as party favors? Ranil has also stated that he was setting a trap for the LTTE. Well his trap opened wide when he was neither elected or could exert control over the LTTE as proved by the the destruction of water supply to thousands of farmers. This all happened at the begining of President Rajapaksa's term and quite displaced the directive to look into the unregulated financial paper that does deeds such as foreclose on landholders by trying to charge an accelerated and unagreed upon interest rate - that also is a Ceylinco matter but under President Rajapaksa's directives it is being handled in the courts per our democratic standards. http://colombotoday.com/english/articles/1584.htm moreVoting Question: Should I get a monstor Qosimo or a Macbook?
The 3 computors in the running are a Quosimo,Mackbook (inc Air but not Pro, due to it's price, I'm well aware that Pro is the best laptop) and the I Mac, The I mac seems great value, it's similar in price to the Macbooks and Qos, but way cheaper then the Pro. My main use will be simulation, trains, aircraft, watercraft, military. I'm only at the playing stage but hope to progress to the designing level So a Macs software looks very atractive if you want to learn about graphic design and annimation. I'd actualy like the Qosimo for games and a Macbook or Macbook Air for learning and portability ( possably plaing some simulators on it) But overall, I can't go past the value and semi portability of an I mac. It's not much harder to move than a Qosimo and I'll hardly ever run the Qos on batteries anyway, Even a Macbook ( if I get one) will be plugged in, most of the time. So it really comes down to 1, white ( plastic macbook, the cheapest model) 2 Alluminium Macbook ( both models) 3 Macbook Air 4, Qosimo 5 I Mac ( A computer that gives you a big screen and ( I assume), is better than the Macbooks, or are the Macbooks really that good ???) Note I like the idia of a flashy Qos and a space age looking Macbook ( with software that =s its buissiness like looks. But if I aim for 2 laptops then a Pro, for the same $$$ (as both,) will do things they can't It's the beginning of my Mac expirence and what Apple have built has made me sit up and take notice, or shoud I buy plasic and Vista ??? moreVoting Question: Can I buy/own a gun in AZ but be employed in CA? (age & residency laws?)?
I am (currently) a resident, employee (actor), and student in California. I just turned 18 years old and would like to purchase a firearm in AZ. I could have a primary residency in Arizona, start a business/get a job there, and go to an online/hybrid university there, and therefore become a resident of AZ (I'm assuming this is necessary to purchase and use a firearm there, please correct me if I'm wrong), and just visit CA for auditions (expensive but "doable"). But I'm wondering, if I do not work in AZ can I still be considered a resident? Also, would I be allowed to bring a weapon from AZ (possibly including a pre-ban AR-15) into CA for shooting on a range/on privet property? From what I could find on Wikipedia there are no "Peaceable Journey laws" for CA or AZ, but CA does have a ban on assault rifles. "Legally defined assault weapons and .50 BMG rifles listed by make and model by the DOJ must be registered. Their sale and transfer is prohibited. Military look-alike rifles that are not chambered for .50 BMG and are not on the DOJ roster are legal to purchase or possess, with some restrictions in configuration--known as "banned features."" Does that apply to the [possibly '94-'04 AWB "pre-ban"] AR-15/M-14 SOPMOD/AR-10 assault rifles? does that mean that in California (assuming I can bring them to this state), I still cannot shoot them? moreResolved Question: Why does'nt the British military have bigger numbers of people?
I mean were the fourth most powerful nation (Under the US, Russia and China) in the world and also the military is deployed in many places so then why don't we have bigger numbers like the US China or Russia, we are extremely well trained and the special forces are matched by none (As even the US special forces are modelled off the UK special forces), so why don't we have bigger numbers of people in the military then, because it would help to cut down the growing unemployment rate the recession is causing, anyone got an answer to this?England is one of the five great powers and is more powerful than france (the bottom of the five) therefore it is the fourth to those of you who said otherwise. Also Britain is in the G8 it is not economically crap to whoever said that. I'm sick of these people thinking the UK is s**t.A few people said we are very unpowerful in the world but go on wikipedia and you will find there is five great powers and the UK ranks 4th in them, that is where I got that peice of information, I'm sick of all these people saying Britain is rubbish because of Iran Pakistan and India because they have 84-27505748057 nukes, that does'nt make them powerful it means that they spend god knows how much on nukes that they would never use and even if they did would run out of places to nuke. Seriously. moreResolved Question: What makes a "1911" pistol a 1911?
I know it had to do with the military issue ones. But with so many different models of "1911" pistols, what exactly characterizes a 1911 as seperate from other pistols? But what is different about a 1911 than lets say a glock 45. Or a revolver. What is the difference just the way its built, the firing mechanism? More reliable, what? moreResolved Question: Need help on military future weapons project. Many foreign women are prisoners of the US. They can't go home without fear of losing their children. People say it is a choice/voluntary but in reality it is no choice at all. Mothers will die for their children let alone be prisoners for them. Even American women suffer, if they marry military some have to live separately if deployed overseas for 3 years and maintain the expenses of that separate household. This can cause divorces is loving relationships because the ex can legally control the situation. Even moving out of state comes with hurdles and court dates and not all situations are granted. Why isn't termination of parental rights granted more often? Yes a male role model is important in children's lives but there is no distinction between a loving step father, grand father, best friend/neighbor or biological father. Most often men who contest moving are trying to inflict emotional abuse on the ex-wife and even control them. Sometimes the husband knows the mother's family has money and is hoping to control the child's inheritance. Rarely is the father doing it to protect the child because the child has no other male influence - the only real reason to be a parent/visit in the first place. If this isn't solved, parental kidnapping will increase, especially with the economy the way it is. How can we solve this problem? Will termination of parental rights become more common or will kidnapping?Flika: Did that, however it is still legally kidnapping. Michelle Obama has emerged as a powerful voice, but some wonder if she's taking on too much. For the past month alone, here’s Michelle Obama’s itinerary: Travel to North Carolina to rally military families. Stand next to Hillary Clinton to encourage women to get politically active. Show up at a home-building site on the National Mall. Visit a D.C. school to talk up good grades. Cap it off by shoveling dirt for a “kitchen garden” at the White House. Oh, and in between, the Council of Fashion Designers of America announced that it would honor her with a special tribute for her contribution to the fashion industry. Traditional? Hardly. In fact, Obama’s approach so far is decidedly different from the usual model of the modern first lady — pick a platform of two or three issues and stick to it, by and large, for four years. She’s become the spokeswoman for all sorts of issues and topics — from fitness, parenting, the environment and women’s rights, to redefining images of black women in American culture and promoting self-esteem for young girls. Yet in the midst of all those themes, it isn’t yet clear whether her self-described core messages — about military families, volunteerism, and helping working women balance work and family life – are truly breaking through. Some wonder if she’s spreading herself too thin to emerge in the public mind as a leading voice on those topics. moreResolved Question: Is this the change you had in mind? Now clearly I know it is with some of you..?
with the thought of you lost get over it or the all to used if you want our president to fail well your just anti American!!!!! I did not like Bush and I don't like Obama either...This seems to be the end of who we are as a Nation ....It seems all have forgot it is our American Duty to stand up against the Government when they start getting to big for there britches... Topic: House and Senate Pass Service Bill - Is this the private, well-funded, civilian military Obama promised during the campaign? Brannon Howse reveals the largely unknown story of how the Obama's are taking national their radical, socialist, and anti-Christian worldview training that was birthed through their organization "Public Allies". The training will include "social justice" training which is code word for Communism, socialism and Marxism. Obama's friend, and self-declared Communist, Bill Ayers is now one of the leading social justice authors of textbooks being used nationally. Much of this began years ago with the help of socialist John Dewey and William James. James wrote "The Moral Equivalent of War" in which he called for compulsory youth service that used the military model of discipline, drilling and training. While he was anti-military he knew the value of the techniques that teach military members to follow orders, work for the common good of the group, and reject individuality and self-interest for collectivism. James even acknowledges the need for some criminal cruelty to win their war on capitalism and traditional virtues. The newly passed legislation calls for a committee to study making this youth service mandatory. The Obama/Biden website called for 50 hours of yearly volunteerism for middle school and high school. Sounds harmless enough right? Not until you realize the volunteerism is for liberal leftist, inner-city organizations that are seeking to indoctrinate young minds with the acceptance of the growth of the welfare-state by emotionally manipulating them with the need for redistribution of wealth. The war is the haves against the have nots just as Saul Alinsky called for in his book, Rules for Radicals. The New York Times reports that this legislation will cost $5.7 billion from 2010 to 2014 and will engage 7 million in this indoctrination. The paper also reports that the majority of Republicans and Democrats voted for this legislation and Rick Warren was an "enthusiastic supporter of this effort". The legislation also forbids students that are going through this government brainwashing to be involved in “engaging in religious instruction, conducting worship services, providing instruction as part of a program that includes mandatory religious instruction or worship.” So may I ask is this Ok with everyone? Is this what you want for you or your children....????????????????Organism... well I hate to remind you of what happen the last time somebody had these Idea's ...and I am sure there where people running around just like you that where saying it is just paranoia... Our town has a Police station that only has 3 people and 1 car lol xD There were 6 cars in the convoy all exactly the same. I think that they were either BMW X3's or 5's. They were not travelling with any bikes or unmarked cars. All had tinted windows, and the biggest characteristic (Unlike any Police/ Mil vehicle that I have seen before was that they were painted in all black with Yellow squares. The pic below shows a "Model" X5 that is White with Blue and yellow squares. The vehicles that I saw were "All Black, with Yellow Squares" http://www.cheshire999models.co.uk/hamp%20bmw%20x5%201.jpg A bit like this one, but again, all Black and no white. http://www.ukemergency.co.uk/others/dsc06979.jpg On the side and front it clearly said "Defence Security" I have tried google'ing it and all I find are private firms... No mention of them being a sector of the Military Police (MP) or a group of the Police force. Basically I am a tad curious, and even more so now as I can't seem to be able to find anything on them :/ Any help would be excellent :) Cheers moreResolved Question: Why are gun sales soaring? Gun retailers can't keep up inventory of military guns and assault weapons...why?
Gun sales have been soaring since 2007, and they are still increasing. Military guns and assault weapons in particular are selling like hot cakes... why do you think? " "We sold out of small handguns yesterday," Barry adds. "Since the election, several models of guns are six months to a year back-ordered." The models Walker is referring to - the ones that gun makers can't make enough of - are military-style weapons. During the Clinton administration, Congress passed a ban on these so-called assault weapons, making it illegal for civilians to own them. The Bush administration allowed this ban to expire in 2004. For the past five years, assault weapons have been flooding the market. The economy's bad. People are losing their jobs. Most first-time gun buyers are scared. People are scared of armed robbery. That's why they're buying guns. That reaches deeper than the Clinton or Obama plan. That's a social issue." please... just read this! is it good enough to convince a news station to come to my school?!?!?! Dear News 12, On the 31st of March, my school will be holding a ceremony for one of the teachers who has been called to Iraq. His name is Mr.Gunsel. He is a 7th and 8th grade social studies teacher. I had him last year, and he really made a big impact on my life. everyone at my school is very upset about him leaving, but we all are also very, very proud of him. he is in the military and he is also a volunteer firefighter. I also have to say, that out of ALL the teachers i've ever had, he has been my absolute favorite. He is such a great role model, and i thought it would be really nice if you guys could come to our school and do a little segment on him. The ceremony will begin 1st period ( 8:15 AM ) on the back field of our school. i think it would be great to show him a little appreciation by putting it on the news. this person is going to Iraq to fight for our country, showing him some gratitude is only the least we could do. i really hope you will take doing this into consideration. it would really mean a lot to everyone. the school is located on the left side of Oakwood Road in Huntington Station, zip code 11746. it is right off of Jericho Turnpike. I appreciate you taking the time to read this. I dont want to say my full name because i dont want Mr.Gunsel to find out it was me who e-mailed you. thank you! When I lived alone I thought I was insane. There were two apparitions which guarded the threshold of my apartment. Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, We've stuck together since the late 1950s, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know that we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and just will not ever agree on what's right. So let's just end it right now while we can do it on friendly terms. We can smile, shake hands, chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and each go our own way. So here's a model separation agreement. Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by land mass, each taking a portion. That's going to be the difficult part, but I'm sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy. Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate taste. We don't like redistributive taxes so you can have those. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. And since you hate guns and you hate war, we'll take the firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell. But you are going to be responsible for finding a biodiesel vehicle big enough to haul them around. We'll keep the capitalism, the greedy corporations, the pharmaceutical companies; we will keep Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have the homeless, the homeboys, the hippies and illegal aliens. We will keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, the greedy CEOS and all of the rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and we'll let you have NBC and Hollywood. You can be nice to Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer anybody that threatens us. You can have the peaceniks and the war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we will provide them with security. You won't have to worry about it. We will keep our Judeo-Christian values. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley Maclaine. You can also have the UN, but we will no longer pay the bill. We will keep the SUVs, the pickup trucks and the oversize luxury cars. You can have the compacts, the subcompacts and every Subaru station wagon you can find. You can give everybody healthcare, if you can find any practicing doctors. We will continue to believe that healthcare is a privilege and not a right. We will keep "The Battle Hymn of the Republic" and the national anthem, and I am sure you will be happy to substitute in their place "Imagine." I'd like to teach the world to sing "Kumbaya" or "We are the world." We will practice trickle-down economics and you can give trickle-up poverty your best shot. And since it so offends you, we will keep our history, our name and our flag. Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along other like-minded liberal and conservative patriots. And if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the friendly spirit of parting, I'll bet you ANWAR which one of us will need whose help in about 15 years. (I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do this but I know it will be perfect for me so I'm going to try) -Spanish (I'm currently in Spanish 2 and I plan to take it up to Spanish 4) -French (The only other language offered at my school and I want to take it next year through my senior year) -Boxing. (My sister's boyfriend who's 18 and I are going to start training and such. Any suggestions on doing this, and what communities to get into, should we compete or just train and spar for the fun of it?) -A+ Certification (I am really into computers and I would like to get this certification to add on to my resume as I plan to major in IT) -SAT score (what SAT score should I shoot for? I took the SAT in 7th grade as part of the Duke TIP program and I scored a 1580.) -Ambassador (In the Summer of 2007, I traveled to Europe for 21 days as part of an Ambassador program with People to People international.) -Sports (I'm not really into the Sports at my school. I'm athletic in general but I don't seem to do well at any of these traditional sports. My fiance is in the army, he graduates from basic and then goes to airborne training and r.i.p. Honestly I'm confused as to what he is going to do after that, his mos is airborne ranger, but he has talked about going to west point (or another college) and also the special forces. These are just options and I know that as he is still in basic he has a long way to go. But I just want to know what life is like for the wives of soldiers who do those things. Currently I am in college for elementary education and dance but I would like to pursue some other things like modeling/acting just for fun and I'd really like to do them but I was advised to get a degree so I have a solid career to fall back on. My fiance says that while he is deployed that would be a perfect time to attempt those things or further my degree, so hopefully that will keep me busy. I eventually want to have kids so I'm curious as to what being a military mom is like, and also just some info about deployments, pay, etc. just so I have an idea of what I'm going to get into. We are going to most likely wait until I graduate (I'm a sophomore now) to get married, but it seems like it would be SO much easier for us to marry sooner because aparently I'm not recognized by the military until we are married, however I have found that that has not been the case as everyone I've talked to about housing arrangements and other things has been super nice and very helpful and accomodating to me. Also I just want to say thanks to everyone who answers my military related and all my other questions, it really helps out, well most of the answer help, some people are mean haha. Thanks so much :) moreResolved Question: Is the economy really as bad as the sensationalist media makes it out to be?
I don't question that these are tough times, but this is nowhere near as bad as the Great Depression. You don't see any soup lines. You don't see men standing on street corners trying to pawn their cars for rent money. We don't have 25% unemployment like we did in 1932. Most states have around 7%. Not exactly the end of the world. Let me be clear that I'm not defending the previous administration, which was a model of incompetence and a complete disaster. But, there are still numerous job opportunities available these days, in health care (esp. nursing) as well as the military. For example: I was at the Celtics-Suns game the other day at USAirways Center in Phoenix, and the place was sold-out. The cheapest seats were going for $50 a pop. Seats on the lower level were starting at $120. If this economy was really that bad, sports arenas would be completely empty. I have a hard time believing that things are really that bad when people can afford to pay $500 for a ticket to a basketball game. When are the American people going to be savvy enough to see that our troubles are mainly the result of a sensationalist media bent on scaring the hell out of the public? The overwhelming majority of all journalists nowadays are dishonest people of low moral fiber. Newspapers and TV networks thrive on public fear. This is what boosts their ratings. News executives learned this during and after 9/11. The media wants nothing more than for this (minor) recession to deepen. Most Americans would agree that journalism has evolved into one of the most dishonest, unethical and sleazy of all professions, on a par with street prostitution or human trafficking. Journalists do not report news, they *create* news. And for the sake of their ratings, they prefer for it to be *bad* news. moreResolved Question: What systems are currently using JC3IEDM?

If Western civilization is to avoid failure and meet the global threat of terrorism posed by a de facto World War III, then decision makers and educated citizens must attend to the incisive recommendations of Dilworth and Maital. They lay out the causes of this threat in convincing detail, provide a compelling model for analyzing both the Fog of War and Fog of Peace, and then clearly chart a road forward that utilizes the powerful, non-violent tools of discussion, dialogue and negotiation.”–Marc Holzer, Dean of the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University, Founder and Director of National Center for Public Productivity “Dilworth & Maital's work is a groundbreaking analysis of the cultural and economic underpinnings of current global conflicts. With the alarming and rapid growth in crimes committed by youths, the search for an effective means of punishment instead of prison is being explored. In the 2005/2006 statistics on crime, boys recorded an unprecedented 45% increase in violence including assaults, murders, rapes and robberies compared to 1996/1997 while girls aged between 15-19 violence has jumped up by 30%. The statistics have proven the threat of jail as punishment for youths is a failure with the amount of crimes committed by young people soaring each year. It is argued sending youths to detention centres to be surrounded by more convicted criminals like themselves doesn’t rehabilitate their minds and only allows more room to breed the next generation of young criminals. The idea of giving first time offenders the option of serving two years in the army as an alternative to jail was proposed between 2007 and 2008 and would allow them to have full army pay and conditions, retain their liberty and avoid a criminal record. The recruit however, would need to go through an intense psychological screening to ensure they meet safety standards and are suitable for the army. If the full two years is not carried out, the offender would return to court for a re-sentencing on the original crime, with no option to return back to the army. The proposal however, like any, comes with both pros and cons. The growing number of juvenile criminals in Victoria indicates a serious need to tackle the problem head on. A few of many reasons why young people commit crimes include neglect, abuse, mental illness, drugs, alcohol and poor education. Some youths simply commit crimes because they are bored and have unfulfilling or aimless lives while others do them under peer pressure and the fear they may seem “uncool” if they don’t. In both those cases, they can easily be amended with proper punishment and mental stimulation. Military life would teach them discipline (what their parents failed to teach them), life skills, respect and core values and may even give purpose back into the lives of those that had given up hope. In return for the civilians, the streets would be kept cleaner of crime and the new army recruits would have a goal in their life as well as a decent salary, all in exchange for years behind bars. Even though the cost of training up a new recruit costs more than sending a criminal to jail, if the program proves a success then there’ll be one more former offender off of Victoria’s streets and making our state a safer place. In addition, if the criminal is 18 or over or tried as an adult, they would be surrounded by older prisoners who have far more serious convictions who could easily negatively influence them and worse habits may be picked up. The Australian Defence Force are currently delivering food parcels, improving fire-breaks and containment lines, and putting tents and facilities into places to help accommodate, feed and support some of the more than one thousand residents left homeless by the Victorian bushfires. If there were more people power, serious incidents such as the bushfires could be tackled even quicker and bringing relief to the affected people as fast as possible. For many boys who break the law, they often lack a positive male role model in their lives and the army would provide them with proper mentors who would guide them in the right direction. In today’s society, one punch acting on impulse, one moment of temporary madness could see good young people ending up in jail for manslaughter or assault charges. The radical plan will help ease congestion at many overcrowded jails and detention centres throughout the state and allow authorities to deal with more serious issues such as repeat offenders. The plan however, does come with its disadvantages. The best question to ask yourself is “Would you ever want someone at your workplace who you knew has stabbed someone, or is capable of murder?” The main mission of the army is for national defence and the brave men and women who serve in it certainly don’t need the distraction of rehabilitating kids with behavioural problems impeding that goal. For those criminals who pass the psychological screening, it’s still possible they have temptations to offend again and after two years of military training, taught army tactics and how to shoot a rifle, they could use their knowledge for bad instead of good. The idea should also be considered in the army’s point of view and whether the army would even want convicted criminals in their honourable workforce. In a response from a currently serving Australian army officer via e-mail, he said “I am in the army and why would someone who cannot even follow simple laws ever want to watch the back of a complete stranger. I wouldn’t trust the man next to me if he was there for punishment” Like any workplace, the army seeks dedicated, reliable, competent, proud and hard-working people and clearly, criminals cannot meet the integrity that th moreResolved Question: Have you heard about the swarming concept and terror? Do you think its a real threat?
New York Times Editorial By John Arquilla Published 2/14/09 WITH three Afghan government ministries in Kabul hit by simultaneous suicide attacks this week, by a total of just eight terrorists, it seems that a new “Mumbai model” of swarming, smaller-scale terrorist violence is emerging. The basic concept is that hitting several targets at once, even with just a few fighters at each site, can cause fits for elite counterterrorist forces that are often manpower-heavy, far away and organized to deal with only one crisis at a time. ,………… Al Qaeda and its affiliates have been using these sorts of swarm tactics for several years. Jemaah Islamiyah — the group responsible for the Bali nightclub attack that killed 202 people in 2002 — mounted simultaneous attacks on 16 Christian churches in Indonesia on Christmas Eve in 2000, befuddling security forces. Even 9/11 itself had swarm-like characteristics, as four small teams of Qaeda operatives simultaneously seized commercial aircraft and turned them into missiles, flummoxing all our defensive responses. ……. This pattern suggests that Americans should brace for a coming swarm. Right now, most of our cities would be as hard-pressed as Mumbai was to deal with several simultaneous attacks. -------- For the defense of American cities against terrorist swarms, the key would be to use local police officers as the first line of defense instead of relying on the military. The first step would be to create lots of small counterterrorism posts throughout urban areas instead of keeping police officers in large, centralized precinct houses. This is consistent with existing notions of community-based policing, and could even include an element of outreach to residents similar to that undertaken in the Sunni areas of Iraq — even if it were to mean taking the paradoxical turn of negotiating with gangs about security………. As for Afghanistan, where the swarm has just arrived, there is still time to realize the merits of forming lots of small units and sprinkling them about in a countrywide network of outposts. As President Obama looks to send more troops to that war, let’s make sure the Pentagon does it the right way. Yes, the swarm will be heading our way, too. We need to get smaller, closer and quicker. The sooner the better. I’d like to hear about your opinion about capital punishment. First, I’m from Korea (, which still has the death penalty DE JURE, not DE FACTO). Some people say that how early the death penalty is abolished is the measurement of civilisation of the society. In fact, most (maybe all) of the EU member states have already abolished the death penalty. And no one will deny that the United States is the world’s most developed country in economy, science, medicine, engineering etc. Nevertheless, the US government still adheres to the death penalty. Of course, capital punishment might have very little to do with the standard of living and civilisation of a certain society. But do you think crimes can be reduced by sending atrocious criminals to the gallows or the electric chair? Some of you might argue that the human rights of the victims are more important than those of the criminals, in favour of capital punishment. Yes, that’s quite right. But will the bereaved family of the victims be consoled by killing the criminals in the same way the victims were killed? Don’t you think that the government should do something else to help the bereaved families efficiently? You might be worried about the boldness or insensibility of the criminals, without capital punishment. But is there any reliable data that shows an increase of crime rate in a society without capital punishment, or vice versa? And we can also prevent criminals from committing additional crimes by isolating them from society forever. But some people say that the life imprisonment is a sheer waste of tax, because it costs our tax to feed the so-called "trash of society" to their natural death in jail. We Koreans are stuck in a dilemma about this. We’ve never seen any executions for the past two presidencies (10 years). Maybe it’s because the two ex-presidents were both Catholics and opposed to capital punishment for such religious reasons. Moreover, one of them has won the Nobel Prize for Peace. And he has also ever been saved from the fear of execution, after he had been arrested as a political prisoner and sentenced to death by the military junta. But recently, some serial killers have been arrested on charges of murdering 5 to 10 people in Korea. So, many Koreans are maintaining that the justice minister should start signing the death warrant for prisoners on death row again. Some people add that a good model of this would be China, where more than 2,000 criminals are executed every year. And furthermore, some extremists even argue that they should be executed in public like in Iran under Ahmadinejad. But actually, we don’t live in the Middle Ages, when the so-called “witches(?)” were burnt alive in public. Some of you may ask me “If your brother or sister had been cruelly killed…” Well, it would be an extreme situation I don’t want to imagine, and quite frankly, I couldn’t answer that question. And some might respond to the question by asking, “If your brother or sister were the very murderer…” Anyway, I want to hear about your opinion about the death penalty. By the way, I’m not quite sure if my English expressions are accurate enough. moreResolved Question: Can the death penalty reduce crimes effectively?

By the way, I’m not quite sure if my English expressions are accurate enough. moreResolved Question: I'm thinking about modeling...?
and i just want anyone word out on my personality traits...not my physical (the agency can figure that out). I want to be a model because I dnt do anything else with my time and I feel like I'm not good at anything. But I love being busy. It would b nice to travel, my dad is in the military so I'm use to it. I want to stay skinny and never become fat and I want to make a lot of money. I chose modelin because I don't know what else to do. I dnt want to waste my life away. I'm in high school now as a junior, what else can I do? If I'm busy, I might not feel as depressed as I do and might feel a little better about myself. Although I've had modeling experience b4. I want to try it again (the last time, the agency was a joke). What do you think? {Sorry for the long writing, thanks for reading! and sorry if this is in the wrong catagory} moreVoting Question: Nuclear capability of Uruguay?
